4 steps to understanding weight management

Make the decision to manage your weight

Once you make the decision to manage your weight, begin by documenting the date, your current weight and your proposed weight loss. There are many ways that you can manage your weight including diet and physical exercise. At times, you can begin your weight loss and weight management with a friend.

Begin by doing something positive to lose weight

Your initial efforts at weight loss are important. They will also help to determine how well you are able to maintain your weight loss, in terms of short or long-term weight management. Remember that this is your weight loss-management program, so you are alone on this, even when you have a weight loss-management partner. Your personal success with respect to our weight loss-management program is up to you and your responsibility, although there are others who can and will help you, including your family physician and other health care professionals.
Document your success
Documenting your success in terms of your initial weight loss is important, as it will encourage you to continue to manage your weight. Remember that physical activities will help to burn calories. Further weight loss may be an important part of your long terms weight management program.
Consider other aspects of weight management
Other aspects of weight management are also important. Probably most important of all is your attitude. “I can do it” puts you into a positive mode regarding ongoing weight management. Remember that losing weight and maintaining your weight loss are a ‘gain’ mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually for you. It is not a ‘loss’ in your life, as you will find many new realms of enjoyment that you never anticipated.
